Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

Properties of Teflon
Chemical properties:
- Resisting against acid, alkali and all organic solvents.
- The temperature poses minor effect to Teflon as it is designed to resist against high temperature (-190~260℃ ) and the thermal conductivity is 0.25W (m-k).
- High lubricity, presenting the lowest friction coefficient (about 0.1) in all plastic materials.
- It resists against atmospheric oxidization, radiation projection effect with lower permeability. The surface and the performance of Teflon remain unchanged when exposing to the atmosphere for longer time.
- Non-flammable, with limited oxygen index below 90.
- Non-sticky surface. It prevents the known solid materials from attaching to the surface.
- Designed with insulating function in providing volumetric resistance up to 1018Ω. Millimeter. Less medium consumption to avoid the interference from the environment and frequency.
- Teflon is featured in soft mechanical properties. It is a solid material with very low surface energy and the density is 2.1 ~2.3g/cm³.
- Wear resistance: Under high load, with excellent wear resistance. Under certain loads, it has the dual advantages of wear resistance and non-adhesion.
Application of Teflon
PTFE is widely applied in the locations that need to resist against acid, alkali and organic solvent. Initially, it was used as the coating materials for the internal wall of rockets and then it was improved and used in a variety of applications such as military technologic weapons, stick-free pot and internal coating materials of water pipelines.
